As the 56-Dharmanagar assembly by-election approaches, the political atmosphere is becoming increasingly charged. Congress heavyweight and legislator Sudip Roy Burman has joined the campaign in support of the party’s candidate, Chayan Bhattacharya, for the third consecutive day.
On Sunday, his campaign focused on Booth No. 48 in the Durgapur area. From early morning, Congress workers and supporters showed strong enthusiasm.
MLA Sudip Roy Burman, accompanied by party workers, went door-to-door, interacting directly with residents and distributing leaflets outlining Congress’s promises. He also criticized the current government’s anti-people policies.
During the campaign, he emphasized that electing Chayan Bhattacharya is crucial for overall development in Dharmanagar, improving healthcare services, and addressing unemployment. He also listened to residents’ grievances and assured them that Congress would continue to stand by the people, just as it has in the past.
The party’s leaflet highlighted key promises including improved civic services, protection of women’s rights and empowerment, upgrading district hospital infrastructure and ICU facilities, and providing purified drinking water to every household.
Observers say the enthusiastic response from the people in Durgapur on the third day of campaigning has boosted the Congress camp’s confidence. Now all eyes are on the by-election results to see whom the people of Dharmanagar ultimately choose.
