The Indian National Congress (INC) has officially submitted its list of 40 star campaigners to the Election Commission of India for the upcoming by-election in Tripura’s 56–Dharmanagar constituency, scheduled for April 9, 2026.

The by-poll follows the passing of Biswa Bandhu Sen, the BJP MLA and Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. The Congress has nominated Chayan Bhattacharya as its candidate for the seat.

A letter from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) stated, “In accordance with Section 77(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, we wish to inform you of the designated star campaigners of the Indian National Congress who will participate in the bye-election to the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the 56-Dharmanagar constituency, scheduled to be held on April 9, 2026.”

The list features senior national leaders including Jairam Ramesh, Sachin Pilot, Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Imran Pratapgarhi, Alka Lamba, and Christopher Tilak, along with a mix of regional leaders from Tripura. Local leaders named include Tripura Congress President Asish Kumar Saha and MLAs Birajit Sinha, Sudip Roy Barman, and Gopal Chandra Roy.

Asish Kumar Saha confirmed that campaigning is already underway. “We have begun our outreach efforts. The star campaigners will arrive in Tripura on March 31 and continue campaigning until April 5,” he said.
