The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday announced that it will contest the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections independently, aiming to improve on its previous performance, coinciding with the announcement of the Dharmanagar by-election candidate.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) today declared Chayan Bhattacharjee as its candidate for the 56-Dharmanagar Constituency of the Tripura Legislative Assembly.
In the afternoon, AICC Tripura In-charge and MP Saptagiri Ulka arrived in Agartala and held a key meeting with the state Congress leadership, including Congress President Asish Kumar Saha, MLAs Sudip Roy Barman, Birajit Sinha, former President Pijush Kanti Biswas, and other senior leaders.
After the meeting, MP Saptagiri Ulka stated that the party is fully prepared to put up a strong fight in the TTAADC elections.
“We discussed the Dharmanagar by-election, including candidate selection, and also formulated strategies for the ADC polls. The party is confident of contesting independently and giving a tough fight. We have decided not to form any alliances. Our base has grown stronger, and all leaders, MLAs, and grassroots workers are working tirelessly. We are hopeful of performing better than in the last elections,” he said.
Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman added, “MP Saptagiri Ulka reviewed detailed reports on both the Dharmanagar by-election and the TTAADC polls. Candidates have been finalized for Dharmanagar, and after extensive discussions on the ADC elections, we have decided to contest independently in the district council polls.”
