Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today announced a major development for medical education in Tripura, as the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an additional 50 MBBS seats for Tripura Medical College and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital, Agartala.

With this approval, the MBBS intake capacity at Tripura Medical College (TMC) has increased from 100 to 150 seats. The total number of MBBS seats across the state has now risen to 450.

Dr. Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, highlighted that in the past three years, Tripura has seen a record addition of 225 MBBS seats—an unprecedented expansion reflecting the government’s dedication to strengthening both medical education and healthcare infrastructure.

Expressing his gratitude, the Chief Minister said, “My sincere thanks to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda Ji for their unwavering support and guidance in advancing Tripura’s health sector.

The Chief Minister termed the development as another significant step toward making Tripura a hub for quality medical education and healthcare services in the Northeast.
