Tripura Chief Minister, Dr Manik Saha, announced today the establishment of an international standard Golf Course in Tripura, which will serve as a catalyst for showcasing the state to both the nation and the world, ultimately leading to greater recognition and new tourism and investment opportunities for Northeast.

Following Tee-off of the Tripura Open Golf Tournament, part of Bharat Golf Mahotsav GFI Tour 2025, which is being organized jointly by Tripura Golf Association (TGA) and TUSKER BSF Golf Club at the BSF Frontier Headquarters in Shalbagan, Chief Minister expressed hope that a new era in sports and business has begun today.

“I am delighted to inaugurate the first North East Golf tournament held in Agartala under the Bharat Golf Mohotsav. It is indeed a proud moment for our state to host over 30 golfers from various regions of India in this inaugural tournament initiated by TGA,” Dr Saha underlined.

He pointed out that although more golfers were expected to participate, at least 25 could not make it due to flight disruptions across the country. Nevertheless, a considerable number managed to reach the venue despite the challenges.

Emphasizing the broader implications, Chief Minister stated, “This will mark a significant milestone in Tripura's history. With golf now being played here, tourism will expand, attracting more visitors from outside, increasing employment opportunities, and fostering business growth. Golf will enhance Tripura's visibility to the rest of the world.”

Addressing the gathering, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy recalled that the President of the Tripura Golf Association, Devid Debbarma, was the first to propose hosting the Bharat Golf Mohotsav, which commenced on the birth anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I believe this is possibly the largest event in the Northeast and the very first of its kind in Tripura. Those who have never played golf will now have the chance to practice it. We will provide all necessary support, including the development of a Golf Course, to promote the sport among our young talents. We are working extensively to strengthen sports infrastructure and support athletes,” Roy said.

In his opening remarks, IG of BSF Tripura Frontier and President of Tusker Golf Club, Aloke Kumar Chakraborty attributed the significant potential of the state to promote Golf along with other sports. With its lush greenery and pristine environment, Tripura's geography and attractions are ideal for Golf tourism and investment opportunities.

"We are here for Golfing, and it is a privilege to be selected as co-hosts. I express my gratitude to the founder of GFI for enabling us to develop this course and host the season's event," stated Chakraborty, adding that Tusker Golf Club is now open for the public to practice Golf and help in its popularization.

Commending the efforts of TGA and BSF, Ariyavir Arya, General Secretary of the Golf Federation of India (GFI), announced that GFI, in partnership with TGA and the Tripura Government, will organize a national Golf tournament in Agartala early next year, as the growing enthusiasm for Golf in Tripura has inspired the courage to host large-scale events.

He highlighted the aim of the Bharat Golf Mohotsav, stating, "In our fight against drug addiction and obesity among the youth, this event was conceived to be held nationwide. There is a common misconception that Golf is a sport for the wealthy, but GFI is diligently working to dispel this myth and demonstrate that Golf, like any other sport, is played with passion and precision for the sake of social well-being."

Proposing vote of thanks, TGA President Devid Debbarma expressed appreciation to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and Sports Minister Tinku Roy for their dedication to enhancing Golf infrastructure in Tripura, unveiling the government's vision to showcase the state to the world through sports.

He also thanked TGA General Secretary Sushanta Debbarma and the entire TGA team, as well as IG BSF Aloke Kumar Chakraborty and his team, for successfully organizing such a significant event that involved multiple stakeholders to convey a message of unity through sports.
