Tripura Police of East Agartala Police station acting on confidential intelligence carried out two back-to-back operations yesterday night in the Kashari Patti and Women’s College areas, arresting five suspected drug peddlers and seizing a substantial quantity of brown sugar.
East Agartala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Subrata Debnath briefed the media on the successful operations.
He said that following a tip-off, a police team first raided the Kashari Patti area, where they intercepted a scooter allegedly used for distributing narcotics. During the search, the team recovered 400 vials containing brown sugar, weighing around 5.2 grams in total. Four individuals indentified as Joydip Ghosh, Rajesh Shil, Prasenjit Debnath, and Bikash Debnath who were arrested on the spot.
In a subsequent operation around 12:30 a.m., another police team acted on fresh intel and intercepted a scooter near the Women’s College area. This led to the seizure of 410 vials of brown sugar and the arrest of one more accused, identified as Rakesh Dey of Radhanagar.
All five accused were produced before the court today, where police sought their remand to facilitate further investigation into the drug network.
