The Tripura State Election Commission has ordered re-polling in three seats of two Village Committees following incidents of disturbance and allegations of booth capturing during Monday’s Village Committee elections.
State Election Commissioner P.K. Chakraborty, speaking to reporters at a press conference on Tuesday evening, said the decision was taken after examining reports submitted by the respective Returning Officers.
According to the Commission, re-polling will be held in seats 3 and 4 of Gamaria Village Committee under Matabari Block and seat 4 of Paharpur Village Committee under Amarpur Block.
The re-polling will take place on October 3, with voting scheduled to begin at 7 am. The State Election Commission has already issued the necessary notification for the re-poll.
Counting of votes will be held as scheduled on October 5, beginning at 8 am.
Chakraborty said disturbances were reported at two polling stations under the Amarpur and Matabari blocks during Monday’s polling. Following scrutiny of the Returning Officers’ reports, the Commission found that booth capturing/fake voting had taken place in the three affected seats, prompting the decision to conduct fresh polling.
Meanwhile, the overall voter turnout in Monday’s Village Committee elections stood at 81.21 per cent, the State Election Commissioner said.
The re-polling will be conducted under the supervision of the election authorities with necessary security arrangements.
