Unakoti District of Tripura proudly showcased the state’s vibrant culture and craftsmanship at the national-level SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2026, held in Gurugram. Two Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Sunali SHG and Mandira SHG (Sanjog Canteen), represented Tripura with remarkable displays of creativity and culinary expertise.
Sunali SHG impressed visitors with eco-friendly handicrafts made from kochuri pana (water hyacinth), along with designer bags and other traditional crafts. The group’s innovative designs, attention to detail, and sustainable approach garnered admiration from buyers and visitors across India.
Mandira SHG (Sanjog Canteen) became a major highlight at the food court, serving authentic Tripura Special Thalis and traditional Bangoi Chicken. The unique flavors and homely preparation won widespread praise. Visitor Sanjoy Kumar lauded the taste, calling it a “delightful and authentic experience of Tripura’s culinary heritage.”
The participation of these SHGs at a national platform underscores the rich cultural heritage of Tripura and showcases the growing entrepreneurship, confidence, and empowerment of rural women from Unakoti District.
