The Tripura Shooting Association (TSA) convened a Special General Meeting (SGM), marking a pivotal step toward shaping the future of shooting sports in the state.
The meeting was chaired by Paul Dangshu, MLA and President of the Association, and attended by key dignitaries and sports administrators.
The gathering was graced by John F. Kharshiing, Vice President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) and Working President of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, along with officials and observers from the Tripura Olympic Association, Tripura Sports Council, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS), School Board, and district representatives of the TSA.
This was the first SGM of the TSA following the election of its new Executive Committee. A key agenda item was the formulation of a long-term roadmap for the development of shooting sports in Tripura.
Among the major resolutions passed was the decision to submit a proposal to the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports seeking financial assistance to establish Tripura’s first integrated shooting range. The proposed state-of-the-art facility will feature 10m, 25m, 50m, trap, and skeet ranges, offering comprehensive training opportunities for both beginners and competitive shooters.
“This marks a pivotal moment for sports in Tripura,” said Paul Dangshu, President of the TSA.
“Our goal is to provide modern facilities and a structured pathway for our youth to excel in shooting sports. With the right support, Tripura can produce shooters capable of representing India at the highest levels.”
“The establishment of a state-of-the-art range will open new avenues for young athletes in Tripura,” said John F. Kharshiing. “It reflects the growing momentum for shooting sports in India’s Northeast and the dedication of local leadership in nurturing future champions.”
As observers, Sujit Roy, General Secretary, and Krishnapada Sarkar, Joint Secretary, Tripura Olympic Association; Swapan Saha, Joint Secretary, Tripura Sports Council; and Dilip Debnath and Apu Roy, Joint Secretaries, YAS Department, Government of Tripura, were also present.
