Discipline continues to worsen at the state’s premier referral facility, GB Hospital, as fresh incidents of violence and negligence emerge. Over the past few months, the hospital has faced multiple complaints ranging from attacks on medical staff to allegations of poor patient care.

In the latest case, a doctor and a nurse on duty were allegedly assaulted by the relatives of a patient late Monday night. Acting on a written complaint filed by hospital authorities, the NCC Police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Police later identified and arrested two suspects — Abhijit Shil and Abhijit Das, both residents of Kakraban. They were produced before the court on Tuesday, where police sought their remand for further interrogation.

According to officials, CCTV footage from the hospital premises is being reviewed to determine the exact sequence of events.

The incident has sparked outrage among the public and the medical fraternity, who have demanded strict and exemplary punishment for those responsible if found guilty.
