In a significant judicial ruling, the Additional District & Sessions Judge of Khowai District has sentenced two men, Chiranjit Debbarma (42) and Shibaji Debbarma (33), residents of Para Kalak, Biswachandra Para, Teliamura, to life imprisonment for the murder of Ranjan Debbarma in 2011.

In addition to the life sentences, the court imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on each convict, with a provision of six months’ simple imprisonment in case of non-payment.

The tragic case dates back to October 3, 2011, when Ranjan Debbarma went missing while visiting Duski Market in Khowai District on business. His severely injured body was found the following morning near D.S. Para Camp in a nearby jungle. Before succumbing to his injuries at GBP Hospital, Agartala, Ranjan reportedly identified three assailants who had attacked him with a tree branch.

Following a thorough investigation led by Sub-Inspector Asish Sarkar of Teliamura Police Station (currently serving as Inspector and OC of Kalyanpur Police Station), a chargesheet was filed on May 31, 2012. After reviewing the evidence, the court convicted Chiranjit and Shibaji Debbarma under Sections 302/34 of the Indian Penal Code, delivering justice more than a decade after the crime.
