In a swift operation, Tripura Police rescued two employees of Oil India Limited in the early hours of Sunday after they were allegedly abducted from a drilling site in Gomati district late Saturday night.
The incident took place at the Devtamura Drilling Centre under Silachari Police Station in Gomati district. According to Karbook Sub-Divisional Police Officer Gamanjoy Reang, unidentified miscreants forcibly took the two men away using two vehicles.
Upon receiving the information, the officer-in-charge of the concerned police station immediately rushed to the site and alerted nearby police stations. Senior officials were informed, and coordination was established with police units in South district as the suspected vehicle was reportedly heading in that direction.
Police swiftly erected barricades across key routes in the district to block potential escape paths. Faced with tightened security, the suspects allegedly abandoned their vehicle in the Bagafa area under South district and fled, leaving the victims behind.
With assistance from South District Police, the two officials were safely recovered and brought to the police station. The rescued individuals have been identified as engineer Bhuban Chandra Joshi and floor man Amit Kumar.
A case has been registered, and a manhunt has been launched to track down those involved in the attempted kidnapping.
