Tension gripped the Belbari area today after an attack on BJP supporters who were on their way to attend the Chief Minister’s public rally.
The incident took place near Khumtia Bazar under Jirania Police Station, where miscreants allegedly hurled stones at vehicles carrying BJP workers and supporters. Several people were reportedly injured in the attack.
According to sources, the BJP supporters were traveling in a convoy toward the rally venue when their vehicles suddenly came under a barrage of stones. Multiple vehicles were vandalized during the attack.
The injured were given preliminary treatment at a local health center.
The convoy, which included state BJP leaders such as State General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, was stranded on the road for a long time due to the violence. BJP sources alleged that many party workers and supporters were threatened and prevented from reaching the rally venue, with some vehicles being forced to turn back midway.
The BJP has directly accused its ally, Tipra Motha, of being behind the attack. Following the incident, tension has spread across the area. Additional police forces have been deployed to maintain law and order.
Administration officials stated that an investigation has been launched and strict action will be taken against those responsible.
