The Mizo Convention Youth Wing (MCYW), Jampui Hills, has announced the launch of a community-led cleanliness campaign titled “Clean Jampui Hills,” scheduled to begin on January 18. 

The initiative seeks to preserve the pristine natural beauty, environmental purity, and cultural heritage of Jampui Hills, widely celebrated as the cleanest region in Tripura.

Nestled in the North District, Jampui Hills is the highest hill range in the state and is famed for its breathtaking landscapes, cool climate, and vibrant traditions of the Lushai and Mizo communities. The area has increasingly become a favourite destination for tourists drawn to trekking, panoramic sunrise and sunset views, and authentic cultural experiences.

In a press statement, MCYW Jampui Hills President Lalduhsanga Thangluah and General Secretary Vanrokima Royte acknowledged that while the growing influx of visitors reflects the region’s rising popularity, it has also brought challenges that threaten the environment and the serenity of local life.

They expressed concern over improper waste disposal, noting that plastic bottles, disposable plates, and other litter are now being found along roadsides, in gardens, and across public spaces. The organisation also highlighted escalating noise pollution caused by loud music from vehicles and tourist gatherings, which has disturbed church services and disrupted the peaceful daily lives of residents, particularly the elderly and the unwell.

Another pressing issue identified was the open consumption of alcohol and other intoxicating substances in public areas and along roadsides. MCYW stated that such behaviour not only undermines local customs and cultural values but also creates an atmosphere of discomfort and insecurity for women and children.

Through the Clean Jampui Hills campaign, MCYW aims to raise awareness about responsible tourism, inspire community participation in cleanliness efforts, and safeguard the tranquillity and reputation of Jampui Hills as Tripura’s most disciplined and eco-friendly tourist destination.

The youth wing has called upon residents, visitors, and well-wishers to extend their wholehearted support and actively participate in the initiative. MCYW expressed confidence that through collective responsibility and cooperation, Jampui Hills will continue to shine as a symbol of natural splendour, cultural pride, and environmental consciousness.
