Tension and shock gripped the Gandacherra area after the mysterious recovery of a young man’s body from a pond adjacent to the Gandacherra Class XII English Medium School today
The deceased has been identified as Kiran Majhi, a native of Bihar, who had come to Tripura with his father to work as a labourer at a local brick kiln in Gandacherra.
According to police sources, Kiran had been missing since 17 November. His family members and co-workers searched for him in various places but failed to trace him.
This morning, local residents spotted a body floating in the pond near the school and immediately informed the Gandacherra Police Station. Police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and confirmed the identity.
Police officials said that Kiran was mute and deaf, and also suffered from certain mental health issues. However, they have refrained from making any conclusions regarding how he ended up in the pond or whether foul play was involved.
Preliminary investigation suggests that no visible injury marks were found on the body, deepening the mystery surrounding his death.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and the police stated that the exact cause of death will be determined once the autopsy report is available.
Meanwhile, the incident has created considerable unrest and anxiety among local residents.
