In a major success against drug trafficking, Sonamura Police seized 129.8 kilograms of dry ganja during a special anti-narcotics operation conducted in the Kamalnagar area under Sonamura Police Station.
According to police sources, acting on specific intelligence inputs, a large team of police personnel along with TSR (Tripura State Rifles) jawans conducted a raid at the residence of a suspected drug trafficker late on Saturday night. However, the accused reportedly fled the house after receiving information about the police operation.
During the search, police recovered three drums buried beneath the floor of a room inside the house. Upon opening the containers, officers found a total of 129.8 kilograms of dry ganja concealed inside. The seized contraband was subsequently taken to Sonamura Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Police estimate the market value of the recovered narcotics at approximately ₹26 lakh.
Speaking about the operation, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tapas Das of Sonamura Police Station said that the crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal narcotics trade would continue with full force. He emphasized that the police are committed to taking stringent measures to protect society from the menace of drugs.
A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the absconding suspect, while investigators are also working to identify and trace other individuals who may be connected to the drug trafficking network.
The seizure has created considerable public interest in the area, and the police have initiated a detailed investigation into the case.
