Talks with alliance partners over seat-sharing and contesting the upcoming Village Council (VC) elections in Tripura are underway, state BJP president Abhishek Debroy said on Saturday, indicating that a final decision on the alliance arrangement is likely to be announced soon.
Speaking to reporters after arriving at MBB Airport in Agartala from Delhi, Debroy said the BJP leadership has been holding discussions with its alliance partners and that a final decision would be taken after consultations with all stakeholders.
“We have alliance partners, and discussions with them regarding the Village Council elections are underway. Once a final decision is taken, everyone will be informed. Everything will be declared soon,” Debroy said.
The BJP state president said the party has also conducted a series of organisational meetings with the central leadership as part of its preparations for the upcoming Village Council elections, as well as elections to Nagar Panchayats and Municipal Corporations.
According to Debroy, the meetings focused primarily on strengthening the party’s organisational network at the grassroots level and ensuring that the BJP is fully prepared for the electoral challenges ahead.
“There were organisational meetings where discussions were held on the upcoming Village Council elections, along with the Nagar Panchayat and Corporation elections. The discussions were fruitful,” he said.
Debroy added that the party has already begun preparations for the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections, with particular emphasis on expanding and strengthening its grassroots organisation.
“Assembly elections for 2028 are also approaching. We discussed how we can further strengthen our party from the grassroots level. The discussions were positive,” he said.
Maintaining that organisational unity would remain a key priority, Debroy said the leadership had interacted with different sections of the party and expressed confidence that the BJP would face the upcoming elections as a united organisation.
“Talks were held with all the leadership. Our party is with everyone. The BJP is united and will be on the field,” he said.
The upcoming Village Council elections are expected to assume considerable political significance in Tripura, particularly across the state’s tribal-dominated areas. With major political parties gearing up for the polls, alliance strategies, grassroots mobilisation and organisational preparedness are likely to play a crucial role in shaping the electoral contest.
