NCERT Director Prof. Dinesh Prasad Saklani on Tuesday said the National Education Policy (NEP) has introduced a new and significant approach to the country’s education system, while stressing the key role of teachers in its effective implementation.
Saklani made the remarks while inaugurating a five-day training programme for school teachers at the International Fair Complex here.
The programme has been organised by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in collaboration with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) under the National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA).
The training aims to strengthen the professional skills of teachers, improve classroom practices and enhance their contribution towards the overall development of students.
Saklani formally inaugurated the programme by pressing a button. Secretary of the School Education Department, Dr Milind Ramteke, was also present and addressed the gathering.
The NCERT Director said teachers attending the training have a crucial responsibility in translating the objectives of the NEP into practice.
He also highlighted the importance of recognising the learning experiences of children living in remote and rural areas.
“Students in remote areas acquire knowledge through their close interaction with nature and their surroundings. Encouraging their natural creativity is an important objective of education,” he said.
Saklani stressed the need for regular assessment, feedback and review to ensure the effective implementation of educational programmes. He said suggestions from teachers participating in the workshop would help improve future initiatives.
Dr Ramteke said the training programme has given special focus to primary and school education.
“Currently, Tripura ranks third in the country in terms of literacy rate,” he said.
He expressed hope that the training would help strengthen teachers’ professional capabilities and contribute to further improving the quality of school education in the state.
