In a major breakthrough in the state’s ongoing fight against narcotics, the Tripura Police’s Special Task Force (STF) and Jatrapur Police conducted a joint anti-narcotic operation on Saturday, leading to the recovery of a large quantity of dry ganja from Thalibari area under Jatrapur Police Station in Sepahijala district.

According to police sources, the raid was carried out around 12 noon today based on intelligence shared by the Special Branch. The joint team searched the residence of one Shibu Paul, son of Suku Ranjan Paul, at Thalibari ADC village. During the operation, STF personnel unearthed five barrels buried in the courtyard of the house, which were found to contain 178 kilograms of dry ganja of various sizes.

The entire search and seizure process was conducted in the presence of the Officer-in-Charge of Jatrapur Police Station, maintaining all legal formalities. The seized contraband was taken into custody by Jatrapur Police, and a specific case is being registered in connection with the incident.

Police have launched a manhunt for the accused, Shibu Paul (45), who is currently absconding.

Senior officials said that intensified efforts are underway across the state to curb the illicit drug trade and bring those involved to justice.
