Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumdar today conducted a comprehensive inspection of the ongoing riverfront development along the Howrah River, part of the ambitious Smart City initiative.

During the visit, he toured key project sites and engaged with officials to review the progress and future plans.

Highlighting the multifaceted nature of the project, Mayor Majumdar said it aims not only to strengthen flood control through robust embankments and dredging but also to rejuvenate the river with cleaner waters, lush green spaces, walking trails, cycling lanes, and recreational parks.

He said that the initiative also includes modern waste management systems, water purification facilities, and the transformation of riverbank areas into vibrant zones that promote tourism and leisure.

The development will extend from Battala to Dashmighat, with plans to install decorative lighting, food stalls, and other civic amenities to create an inviting environment for residents and visitors alike.

The Mayor emphasized that unauthorized encroachments will be removed to safeguard public land, ensuring the riverfront remains accessible and attractive to all.

Accompanying the Mayor during the inspection were Agartala Municipal Commissioner D.K. Chakma, corporator Abhijit Mallik, and other officials from the Municipal Corporation and Smart City project team.

This project marks a significant step toward transforming Agartala’s riverfront into a modern, sustainable, and recreational hub for the city.
