In a shocking incident that has raised alarm among locals, several dogs were found tied in jute bags in the forest of Chakmaghat Champlai under Mungiakami police station, allegedly for smuggling purposes.

The discovery was made early Tuesday morning by vigilant residents, who immediately alerted the authorities.

The Mungiakami police swiftly reached the scene and coordinated with the animal welfare NGO PAwsome, which rushed from Agartala to rescue the distressed animals. The rescued dogs are now safe in a protected shelter.

Locals have claimed that certain individuals from the area, including Lonsa Tripura and Badal Debbarma, may be linked to the smuggling operations. Community members expressed concern that this illegal trade has been active for a long time and urged authorities to remain vigilant.

“This incident is a stark reminder that the Sarmeya dog smuggling ring is active again in Tripura,” said a resident. “Immediate and strict action is needed to prevent this from escalating further.”

The prompt response of the police and conservation groups ensured the animals’ safety, but public demand for stringent action against the smugglers continues to grow. Authorities are now investigating to bring those responsible to justice.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the region, highlighting the need for continuous vigilance and stronger measures against animal trafficking.
