Two ministers of the Tripura government, along with senior administrative officials, on Tuesday visited the family of Anjel Chakma, a youth from Tripura who was brutally killed in Uttarakhand, and expressed their condolences.
Angel Chakma was a resident of the Machhmara area under the Pecharthal Assembly constituency in Unakoti district.
He was pursuing the final semester of his MBA course in Dehradun at the time of the incident.
Following the incident, Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha spoke over the phone with the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
The Uttarakhand government has assured that exemplary punishment will be ensured for those involved in the crime.
During the visit to Angel Chakma’s residence, Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy handed over a cheque of ₹4,12,500 on behalf of the Uttarakhand government and ₹5 lakh as financial assistance from the Tripura government to the victim’s mother, Gouri Mita Chakma. The condolence message sent by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand was also formally delivered to the family.
Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma and several senior administrative officials were present during the cheque handover. Overcome with grief, Anjel’s mother broke down in tears and strongly demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible for her son’s death.
The ministers and officials extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that the government would stand firmly by their side to ensure justice.
