In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized a huge consignment of Yaba tablets during a joint operation at Mungiakami in Khowai district of Tripura.
Based on specific intelligence inputs, security personnel intercepted a TATA truck (registration number AS-01T-C7674) and conducted a thorough search. The operation led to the recovery of nearly 4.5 lakh Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth around ₹45 crore in the illegal market.
During the raid, one person identified as Hafijul Hoque (42), a resident of Udalguri district in Assam, was apprehended for his alleged involvement in transporting the contraband.
Officials said the seized narcotics and the arrested individual have been handed over to the DRI for further investigation and initiation of legal proceedings under relevant laws.
In a statement, Assam Rifles said the successful operation reflects the force’s sustained efforts, in close coordination with DRI, to curb narcotics smuggling and protect the region from the growing threat of drug trafficking.
