BJP candidate Jahar Chakraborty has secured a decisive victory in the Dharmanagar Assembly by-election in Tripura’s North district, winning 24,291 votes.

The by-election was held on April 9 following the demise of BJP MLA and then Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Biswabandhu Sen. Counting of votes began at 8 AM today under tight security arrangements.

Chakraborty expressed confidence in the outcome, stating that the result reflected continued public support for the BJP in the constituency. He noted that the party had previously won Dharmanagar in both the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections as well.

“We received 24,291 votes with a margin of around 18,000. I thank the people of Dharmanagar for their trust and support. This mandate gives us more responsibility to focus on development. Our goal is to further modernize Dharmanagar, the second-largest town in Tripura,” he said.

In the contest, CPI(M) nominee Amitabh Datta polled 6,001 votes, while Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharjee received 5,936 votes.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha congratulated the BJP candidate on the win, thanking voters for their support. He said the mandate reflects strong public trust and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to development, peace, and progress in Dharmanagar, urging collective efforts toward continued growth.
