In a significant anti-narcotics operation on Thursday night, security forces recovered a large quantity of dried cannabis from the Dhanpur border area under Sonamura subdivision in Tripura’s Sepahijala District.

Acting on a joint surveillance mission, personnel from the Border Security Force and Sonamura Police Station seized suspicious black tape-wrapped packets during mobile patrolling in the border belt of Sonamura.

Officials reported that a total of 48 packets were recovered from an abandoned location in the Dhanpur border area. Upon inspection, the packets were found to contain approximately 90 kilograms of dried cannabis (ganja).

Police estimates suggest the seized contraband has a market value of around ₹1.8 million (18 lakh rupees).

Sonamura Police Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das stated that the recovered narcotics were officially seized as unclaimed contraband following completion of legal formalities.

Authorities have launched an investigation to trace the source and intended destination of the illegal consignment. The joint operation was carried out by Sonamura Police, the Simantapur BSF unit, and the Dhanpur BSF unit.
