A man lost his life after allegedly being assaulted by a group of people who suspected him of cattle theft in the Bagber area under Kalyanpur police station, Khowai district.
The deceased was identified as Jalil Rahman, 45, a resident of the Ghilatali Bazar area.
According to police sources, the incident took place in the late hours of Tuesday night when Rahman was allegedly intercepted on suspicion of cattle theft. He was reportedly beaten severely before police were informed.
Police personnel later reached the area and found Rahman in a seriously injured condition. He was immediately taken to Kalyanpur Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.
Following completion of the post-mortem examination, the deceased's body was handed over to his family members.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those allegedly involved in the assault.
The family has reportedly decided to approach Kalyanpur police station with a complaint, seeking strict legal action against the persons responsible for Rahman's death.
