Tripura Police recently seized a sizeable consignment of narcotics worth around ₹8.5 lakh near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Sepahijala district during a routine patrol operation.
According to Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, the recovery took place while patrolling areas such as N.C. Nagar, Durgapur, Kulubari, and the Srimantapur border road. During the operation, officers discovered abandoned illegal substances including 130 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup, 33 kilograms of ganja (cannabis), and 4,000 yaba tablets.
The entire stock was taken into custody following proper legal procedures. Police have launched an investigation to determine who stored and transported the drugs, as well as to trace their origin and intended destination.
Authorities stated that the estimated market value of the seized narcotics is approximately ₹8.5 lakh, and emphasized that such operations are part of continued efforts to combat drug trafficking along the state’s border regions.
