Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has thrown his weight behind the ongoing agitation by TET-1-qualified job aspirants, urging the state government to address their demands through direct discussions with the protesters.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Sarkar said the candidates had legitimate concerns and should not be left to continue their protest without a meaningful response from the government. He appealed to Chief Minister Manik Saha to sit down with the agitating youths and explore ways to resolve the issue.
“I wholeheartedly support their movement. It may not be possible to provide jobs to everyone at once, but why should the Chief Minister not talk to them?” Sarkar said, questioning the government's reluctance to engage with the protesters.
Highlighting the connection between the demands and the Education Department, Sarkar noted that many of the candidates were seeking employment in the education sector, which falls under the Chief Minister's responsibility. He maintained that the government should take the initiative to hear their grievances and work towards a solution.
The former Chief Minister also expressed concern over the circumstances forcing the candidates to stage protests on the streets for prolonged hours, from morning until night. Describing the situation as unfortunate, he criticised what he viewed as the government's indifferent attitude towards the unemployed youths.
Sarkar emphasised that the authorities should respond to the agitation with sensitivity and a constructive approach. He called for talks between the Chief Minister and representatives of the protesters, stressing the need for positive steps to address their demands and provide employment opportunities in accordance with eligibility and merit.
His remarks have brought fresh political focus to the continuing agitation by TET-1-qualified candidates, who are demanding jobs and a resolution to their long-pending concerns.
