The brutal murder of MBA student Anjel Chakma from Tripura in Dehradun has triggered widespread outrage across the country. Amid growing public anger, former Uttarakhand Member of Parliament Tarun Vijay arrived in Tripura today and is scheduled to meet Anjel Chakma’s family tomorrow.

The visit of the former MP is being seen as a reflection of the Uttarakhand government’s sensitivity towards the incident. Anjel Chakma, who was pursuing an MBA in Dehradun, was allegedly murdered in a shocking and gruesome manner. Following the incident, protests and expressions of anger have erupted not only in the North-East but across India.

Police have intensified their investigation and have so far arrested four out of the five accused. According to the police, the prime accused has fled to Nepal. To expedite the investigation and ensure the arrest of the main accused, the Uttarakhand Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured that the culprits will be given the strictest possible punishment. The Tripura government has also stood firmly beside the bereaved family. Both the Uttarakhand and Tripura governments have extended financial assistance to Angel Chakma’s family.

After arriving in Tripura today, former MP Tarun Vijay met Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu. Later in the day, he is scheduled to meet Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha. On Thursday, he will visit the residence of Angel Chakma to personally meet her family members.

Observers believe that Tarun Vijay’s visit aims to convey the Uttarakhand government’s message of solidarity and support to the grieving family during this difficult time.
