A woman was allegedly robbed of a gold chain worth around Rs 1.20 lakh by two unidentified motorcycle-borne men in the Jugalkishore Nagar area under Srinagar Police Station on Thursday morning.
The victim, identified as Subhadra Debbarma, wife of Subrata Debbarma, was reportedly on her way to work under the MGNREGA scheme when the incident took place near the local Gram Panchayat office.
According to her complaint, two men riding a motorcycle approached her from behind and allegedly snatched the gold chain from her neck before fleeing the spot. One of the suspects was reportedly wearing a helmet.
Hearing her cries for help, nearby residents rushed to the area and tried to intercept the motorcycle. However, the accused managed to escape before they could be caught.
Following the incident, Srinagar Police were informed and a team reached the spot to conduct a preliminary investigation. Police also collected CCTV footage from the area surrounding the Jugalkishore Nagar Gram Panchayat office and are examining the recordings to identify the suspects and trace their motorcycle.
An investigation has been launched, and police are making efforts to identify and apprehend those involved in the alleged chain-snatching.
On Friday, Subhadra Debbarma and her husband visited Srinagar Police Station and urged the authorities to take swift action against the accused and recover the stolen gold chain.
