Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today highlighted the state government’s strong commitment to strengthening health infrastructure and providing world-class healthcare services to the people of Tripura.
He announced plans for new hospitals and expanded medical facilities across the state.
Addressing a press conference at GB Pant Hospital, Dr. Saha said, “Today is a proud day for AGMC and GB Pant Hospital. Our government prioritizes the development of the health sector and aims to deliver quality healthcare to every citizen. We are expanding super speciality services, improving infrastructure, and enhancing manpower to meet the growing needs of our population of 42 lakh.”
Dr. Saha shared that GB Pant Hospital currently has 24 NICU and 116 ICU beds. “After consultations with the AIIMS Director and reviewing their expert report, we found that around 320 ICU beds are required at AGMC and GB Pant. We are committed to achieving this target,” he said.
Recently, the hospital inaugurated:
A 16-bed Respiratory and Geriatric Intensive Care Unit for patients with breathlessness issues.
A Trauma Centre Operation Theatre, now operational 24×7, with general surgeons, orthopaedics, neurosurgeons, and other specialists.
A newly renovated labour room, equipped with advanced life-support systems to ensure the safety of mothers and newborns.
Dr. Saha added, “GB Pant Hospital is one of the oldest institutions, and we are working to renovate and modernize it. While providing services with corporate-level efficiency, we aim to ensure affordability for patients. Our current ICU count is 156, with a target of 320. Total hospital beds have increased from 727 to 1,413.”
New Hospitals and Super Speciality Services
The Chief Minister announced that another super speciality hospital will soon be opened in Hapania, Agartala. Work has also started on a Critical Care and Communicable Disease Centre at AGMC and GB Pant. In addition:
Five more super speciality departments will be launched, adding to the nine already existing.
Efforts are underway to increase MBBS seats in the state.
Telemedicine services with AIIMS have been initiated.
Hospitals by SHIJA and GNRC Super Speciality, Guwahati will open in Hapania at the Jute Mill.
Two district hospitals in Sepahijala and Khowai are set to open soon.
Dr. Saha concluded, “Our vision is to provide healthcare facilities at an international standard, ensuring safety, comfort, and accessibility for all residents of Tripura.”
