In a heartening move to ensure that every family can celebrate the festive season with joy, the Tripura government has unveiled a free ration distribution program.
The initiative was officially inaugurated today by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury at Fair Price Shop No. 148 in the Milan Chakra area of Agartala.
Under the new scheme, every ration card-holding family will receive 2 kg of flour, 1 kg of sugar, and 500 grams of semolina completely free of cost. The program is expected to benefit around 9.90 lakh families, with the government allocating Rs 7 crore to support this initiative.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Chowdhury said,
"Shardotsav is a festival that embodies joy and unity. Through this initiative, we want every family, particularly those relying on ration assistance, to partake in the celebrations. This is not merely about providing food—it is about dignity and sharing the true spirit of the festival."
The minister emphasized that the scheme aims to uplift economically weaker families and ensure that no one is left out during the festive season.
The inaugural event was attended by prominent officials, including Badharghat MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, Food Department Director Sumit Lodh, and Sadar Subdivision Administrator Manik Lal Das.
With this thoughtful initiative, the Tripura government hopes to bring festive cheer to thousands of families across the state, reflecting its steadfast commitment to welfare, inclusivity, and community celebration.
