Hargun Singh, the newly appointed in-charge of Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress, presided over an organizational meeting with all office bearers of the Youth Congress at Congress Bhavan in Agartala today.

Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome extended by party youth members during his first visit to Tripura, Singh said, "I'm thankful for the affection shown by our young party workers. Their dedication to the Congress is evident."

Singh announced a four-day statewide tour to engage with local communities and understand the pressing issues faced by the youth under the current BJP-led government.

Highlighting key concerns, Singh pointed to the alarming rise in drug abuse among Tripura's youth, challenging the BJP's claims of a drug-free state. He also cited widespread unemployment and lack of opportunities, emphasizing the Youth Congress’s commitment to raising its voice against what he termed the "misgovernance" and "misrule" of the ruling party.

Pradesh Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha echoed Singh’s concerns, lamenting the decline of sports culture among the youth. "Earlier, sports were a vital part of youth life. Now, playgrounds remain empty while corners are littered with drug paraphernalia—a shameful reflection of the current state of affairs," Saha stated.

He criticized the government for allegedly commercializing sports infrastructure, citing examples like the TCA and NSRCC facilities. "Facilities like TCA and NSRCC should be used to promote sports among our youth. Instead, NSRCC hosted Durga Puja festivities for four days—a venue meant for sports turned into a stage for entertainment. This is disgraceful," he added, taking a dig at the Chief Minister’s priorities.

The Youth Congress vowed to continue its outreach and advocacy to restore youth engagement, tackle drug abuse, and revive sports culture across Tripura.
