A spell of oppressive heat and humidity is set to affect Tripura over the coming days, with the Meteorological Centre, Agartala issuing a fresh advisory highlighting a rise in temperature levels due to strong solar radiation. Several districts are likely to experience daytime temperatures climbing to 36°C or more, placing them 2 to 4 degrees above the usual seasonal range.
Recent observations indicate that the state has already begun to feel the impact, with the mercury reaching 36.6°C in the last 24 hours — the highest recorded so far this April and notably above normal levels. Elevated humidity has further intensified the discomfort, creating conditions that may lead to heat-related health issues if precautions are not taken.
Residents have been advised to minimize exposure to direct sunlight, especially during peak afternoon hours, and to maintain adequate hydration. Light, loose-fitting clothing and the use of protective gear such as umbrellas or hats have been recommended. Traditional cooling beverages like buttermilk and lemon water are encouraged, while consumption of dehydrating drinks and heavy meals should be avoided.
The advisory also addresses the agricultural community, urging farmers to maintain irrigation for summer crops including maize and pulses. Livestock owners have been asked to ensure proper shelter, ventilation, and sufficient water supply for animals, particularly during the hotter parts of the day. Authorities stress that timely precautions can help reduce the impact of the prevailing weather conditions on both people and livelihoods.
