Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East), Maj Gen Suresh Kumar Bhambhu, YSM, SM, today met Tripura Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar and Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Frontier Headquarters Agartala, A.K. Sharma.
Sources said the meeting, held in Agartala, centred on enhancing coordination between central and state security agencies to strengthen the border management system in the state.
Tripura, which shares a long and porous border with Bangladesh, continues to face challenges such as illegal infiltration, smuggling of narcotics and contraband, human trafficking, and other cross-border crimes. Officials reportedly stressed the importance of joint operations, real-time intelligence sharing, and intensified patrolling in vulnerable stretches.
Sources further informed that the discussions also explored the use of advanced surveillance technologies, stronger community engagement in border villages, and measures to ensure that security initiatives do not adversely affect local livelihoods.
According to officials, Assam Rifles, BSF, and Tripura Police are working to refine standard operating procedures to close security gaps and strengthen response mechanisms. The meeting, they said, is part of a broader strategy to safeguard national security while maintaining peace and stability in the border state.
