A fresh controversy has erupted over the healthcare services at IGM Hospital after allegations surfaced that an elderly patient was transferred to GB Hospital as “punishment” for his relative’s protest against hospital mismanagement.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage in the medical community.

According to reports, Nikhil Dhar (82), a resident of Agardoot Club area in Jogendranagar, was admitted to IGM Hospital last Saturday with fever, cold, and cough. His nephew, Ranjan Dhar, who visited him at the hospital, reportedly found the oxygen cylinders in a very poor condition. Although his uncle did not require oxygen support, Ranjan raised concerns with the authorities about the hospital’s lack of proper maintenance — highlighting the issue for the benefit of other patients as well.

Ranjan alleged that soon after he voiced his concerns, the doctors, without any valid reason, referred his uncle to GB Hospital. He claimed that Nikhil Dhar’s condition was completely stable at the time of the referral, and the transfer was done solely to humiliate him for speaking out against the hospital’s negligence.

He further stated that several other patients at IGM Hospital were in far more critical condition, yet they were not transferred. Calling the move unjust and vindictive, Ranjan has urged the state government to intervene and address the ongoing mismanagement at IGM Hospital through media channels.
