A parliamentary delegation from India, headed by former Tripura Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb in his capacity as Chairman of the India–Bhutan Friendship Group, is currently on an official visit to Bhutan to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.

During the visit, the delegation held discussions with Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and met His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. The meetings focused on expanding cooperation between India and Bhutan across various sectors and reinforcing the longstanding friendly ties shared by the two nations.

The delegation also included Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh. Members of the group exchanged views on enhancing parliamentary collaboration and encouraging regular institutional dialogue between the legislatures of both countries.

Biplab Kumar Deb expressed confidence that continued exchanges between parliamentary delegations would further deepen ongoing bilateral cooperation. He also extended an invitation to Bhutanese leaders to visit India, suggesting that the visit could align with an upcoming parliamentary session.

He further thanked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for assigning him the responsibility of leading the India–Bhutan Parliamentary Friendship Group, and acknowledged the warm hospitality extended by the Bhutanese leadership throughout the visit.
