The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) announced that it is prepared to contest all 28 seats in the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, while remaining open to a joint poll strategy with its allies.
Speaking after a high-level meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee, Buddha Debbarma, Assistant General Secretary of the IPFT, said the party has been reviewing its electoral approach and organisational plans ahead of the elections.
“If all three alliance partners agree to contest together, we have no objection,” Debbarma said. “However, if any party chooses to go solo, the IPFT is fully prepared to contest all seats independently.”
The IPFT, a regional party of Tripura, has been part of the ruling alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 2018. The current three-party coalition, also including the Tipra Motha Party, may choose to fight the TTAADC elections jointly. Debbarma reiterated that the IPFT will support a unified front but emphasized the party’s readiness to run independently if required.
“Our decision underscores the IPFT’s commitment to tribal representation and maintaining a strong presence in the TTAADC,” he added.
The party’s leadership stated that this approach reflects both strategic planning and confidence in their voter base, signaling a potentially decisive role in the upcoming elections.
