A dispute has surfaced in the Kalitilla area of Teliamura under Khowai District after allegations emerged that a government fair price shop allegedly provided less rice than the allotted quantity, raising concerns over the functioning of the public distribution system.

The complaint has been filed against fair price shop number 2902004000012 in the Kalitilla area.

According to complainant Ranjit Saha, he had sent his elderly mother to collect the monthly ration on Wednesday morning. After bringing the rice home, the family reportedly rechecked the weight and found a shortage compared to the prescribed quantity.

Saha alleged that shop owner Sabita Dutta Laskar (Ray) may have taken advantage of his mother’s situation, resulting in the short delivery. He further stated that he later visited the shop to raise the issue but did not receive a satisfactory resolution.

When reporters approached the shop for a response, the owner did not outright deny the allegation. She said that the staff member responsible for weighing the ration was absent on that day, which may have led to an unintentional error.

A local official from the Food Department said the matter would be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action would be taken if any irregularities are found.

The incident has triggered concern among local residents, with demands for a fair probe and strict action to ensure transparency in the distribution of essential commodities.
