The Tripura Left Front on Saturday strongly criticized the state government over the deteriorating law and order situation, alleged administrative bias, and accused the ruling party of promoting divisive politics in the state.
At a press conference held at the Dasharath Deb Smriti Bhavan, CPI(M) state office in Melarmath, Left Front convener and former minister Manik Dey was joined by RSP state secretary Deepak Deb, CPI state secretary Milan Baidya, Forward Bloc leader Paresh Sarkar, and former minister Naresh Jamatia.
Addressing the media, Manik Dey alleged that he faced obstruction on his way to attend a wedding ceremony in Jirania. “Due to the indifference of the local administration, the safety of common people has become a serious concern. I had to return without attending the event,” he said.
Dey also claimed that despite trying to contact the local MLA and minister regarding the incident, he received no response. “This reflects the alarming state of law and order in Tripura,” he added.
During the press conference, Left Front leaders launched a scathing attack on the ruling dispensation, accusing it of undermining administrative neutrality and ignoring citizens’ security.
Former minister Naresh Jamatia made a strong statement regarding the State Election Commission, alleging that “the Election Commission has lost its neutrality and is functioning in favor of the ruling party.”
The leaders further alleged that the state government has halted MGNREGA and TUEP (Tripura Urban Employment Programme) works just before Durga Puja, thereby deepening the financial crisis of poor and working-class people. “By stopping employment schemes, the government has dampened the festive spirit of thousands of workers,” they said.
Manik Dey also accused the ruling BJP of practicing communal politics and attempting to create rifts between tribal and non-tribal communities. “Some Bengali organizations are also indulging in provocative programs that threaten social harmony,” he warned.
He reiterated that the Left Front stands firmly for unity, peace, and democratic coexistence, but alleged that the state is currently witnessing a “planned campaign of division,” which he described as “extremely dangerous.”
Concluding the press meet, Left Front leaders urged the state government and administration to take immediate steps to restore peace, ensure law and order, and protect democratic rights in Tripura.
