Four major railway stations of Tripura Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat and Udaipur have been selected under the Amrit Bharat Station Project, former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb informed on Wednesday.

Responding to a query raised by Deb in Parliament, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the inclusion of these stations in the modernization initiative.

While work at two of the stations has already begun, projects at the remaining two are expected to start shortly.

Deb underlined the Centre’s emphasis on expanding and modernizing rail infrastructure. “In the long-term plan, modernization of railway stations, better passenger services and enhanced comfort have been prioritized. The pace of development in this sector has increased nearly 6.5 times during the Modi-led Central Government compared to the previous UPA regime,” he said.

Providing details of the ongoing work, Deb informed that at Agartala Railway Station, lift installation has been completed, while construction of a 12-meter foot overbridge and a new station building is in progress. At Dharmanagar Railway Station in North District, platform shelters, approach roads and boundary walls are complete, with work on a circulating area, a 12-meter foot overbridge and an escalator underway.

In Kumarghat Railway Station of Unakoti District, a 12-meter footbridge, circulating area, approach road, new waiting hall and platform shelters are being built. Meanwhile, at Udaipur Railway Station in Gomati District, work has commenced on a 12-meter footbridge along with improvements to the waiting hall and toilets.

Deb said the projects would significantly upgrade passenger amenities and improve the overall travel experience for the people of Tripura.
