In a remarkable step towards sustainable water management, the District Administration of North Tripura has launched the “Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra”, an ambitious mission to construct 50,000 soak pits within just two days — November 3 and 4.

District Magistrate Chandni Chandran described the initiative as a historic people’s mission dedicated to ensuring that every drop of rainwater is conserved for the future. “This is not just a government program — it’s a movement for a water-secure tomorrow,” she emphasized.

She highlighted that soak pits, though simple in design, play a vital role in groundwater recharge, flood mitigation, and enhancement of soil health and agricultural productivity. “With minimal cost and effort, each soak pit contributes significantly to sustainable water management,” the District Magistrate added.

Earlier in the day, district officials, including the Additional District Magistrate (PP) and the Swachh Bharat Mission team, demonstrated the construction of a soak pit at the District Magistrate’s residence. The demonstration was recorded on video and will be widely shared to encourage individuals and communities to replicate the effort in their homes, villages, and institutions.

Reinforcing the campaign’s central message — “Catch the rain where it falls” — Chandni Chandran called for active participation from citizens, panchayats, schools, and organizations. The administration envisions the Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra as a collective endeavor that not only addresses water scarcity but also fosters a deeper sense of environmental responsibility across the district.

With this initiative, North Tripura aims to set a new benchmark in community-driven water conservation and environmental stewardship.
