In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Jatrapur Police have achieved significant success during an anti-narcotics drive in the state. The newly appointed Officer-in-Charge (OC), Parthanath Bhowmik, shared details of the operation during a press conference on Thursday morning.
OC Parthanath Bhowmik took charge of Jatrapur Police Station on April 7. Acting swiftly, just a day after assuming duty, he received confidential information on April 8 about a large consignment of narcotics being smuggled across the border. Based on this tip-off, a team led by him, along with personnel from the police and TSR (Tripura State Rifles), set up an ambush near the Kalibari area under Kathalia Gram Panchayat along the Kathalia–Thalibari road.
At approximately 7:30 PM, a suspicious black Baleno VIP vehicle (registration number: TR01-AS-7809) arrived at the location. The police team immediately surrounded and detained the vehicle.
Upon searching the car, officials recovered a total of 32 kilograms of dried cannabis packed in two sacks. The accused, identified as Rubel Hossain (25), a notorious smuggler from the Bashpukur Panchayat area, was arrested on the spot.
Speaking to the media, OC Parthanath Bhowmik stated during preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed that he was transporting the large quantity of cannabis with the intention of smuggling it across the border. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act. He will be produced before the court, and we will seek police remand for further investigation.”
This swift operation within 24 hours of the new OC taking charge has created concern among drug traffickers. Local residents have praised the proactive role of the police in curbing illegal narcotics activities.
