Director General of Police Anurag on Sunday stated that Tripura Police has begun identifying individuals involved in post-poll violence following the declaration of the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council election results, and assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible.

The DGP made these remarks during his visit to the West Agartala Police Station, where he reviewed the functioning and ongoing operations of the station. He clarified that the visit was part of a routine inspection.

Addressing the recent incidents, Anurag said that the violence occurred a day earlier but has since been brought under control. “Some incidents took place yesterday, and necessary action has been initiated. Security forces have been deployed in vulnerable areas, and senior officers are actively patrolling. No major incidents have been reported since then, including today,” he said.

He further emphasized that all reported cases are being taken seriously. “We are identifying the miscreants involved and will take strict legal action. Proper investigations are underway, and charge sheets will be filed accordingly,” he added.

According to the DGP, the situation has now stabilized, with normalcy gradually returning. Markets that were temporarily closed have reopened and are functioning as usual.

Senior police officials, including West District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, Additional SP Dhruv Nath, SDPO Sadar DP Roy, and Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee, were present during the visit.
