Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, royal scion and founder of the Tipra Motha Party, announced on Thursday that he plans to file a case in the Supreme Court concerning land and customary bills that have long been denied to the indigenous people of Tripura by successive governments.

Taking to Facebook, Pradyot stated, “The District Magistrate cannot decide the fate of our people under the instructions of their bosses. Tomorrow, I will file another case in the Supreme Court regarding our land and customary bills, which have been repeatedly denied to the indigenous communities. The Governor, as the custodian of the Sixth Schedule, must also act in the interest of our people.”

He also expressed gratitude to the officers and lawyers who, despite the risk of losing their jobs, assisted him in compiling the legal case for the Supreme Court.

Pradyot further highlighted that the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) currently lacks authority over land rights. “The Central government has assured direct funding but has yet to provide it. When we approach the state government, we are told that funds will only be released if we join the BJP. When Congress comes to power, the same condition is imposed for joining their party, and the cycle repeats with CPI(M). In Tripura, land allocation is controlled by the District Magistrate, who decides how much land each person receives. This is unlike Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland, where Garo, Khasi, and other indigenous communities have control over their lands,” he said.
