Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the royal scion and founder of the Tipra Motha Party, intensified his electoral campaign on Saturday in Tripura’s Dasda-Kanchanpur constituency, framing the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election as a defining moment for tribal rights and community power.
At a rally in North Tripura, Pradyot drew a clear line between Tipra Motha and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stressing that his party had deliberately avoided an alliance. “If we had allied with BJP, Tipra Motha wouldn’t even have a candidate here. Now voters have a real choice: Shailendra Nath of BJP or Uma Shankar Reang of Tipra Motha,” he stated, positioning his party as the defender of indigenous interests against mainstream political forces.
Pradyot sharply criticized the state leadership for neglecting tribal development and undermining traditional systems. “Policies today aim to weaken the Thansa system. When Anjel Chakma was killed, I was the first to raise my voice. Lack of unity has left our indigenous people impoverished,” he said, framing the election as a battle for the future of Tripura’s next generation.
The Tipra Motha leader outlined concrete development promises, including the installation of two to three water tanks in Kanchanpur to address drinking water shortages.
He urged voters to hold the government accountable on infrastructure, education, and basic services, framing these as political priorities that directly affect tribal welfare.
“On one side is BJP’s power, on the other is the power of the community. Community power will win. I will always fight for my people. The support we have received is overwhelming. On April 12, let the poor indigenous people give their answer,” Pradyot concluded, appealing for peaceful yet decisive electoral participation.
By emphasizing tribal unity and socio-economic development, Tipra Motha aims to consolidate the indigenous vote and challenge the political dominance of the BJP in the TTAADC elections.
