Residents of West Charakbai Mog Para in Baikhora staged a road blockade on Thursday protesting the prolonged and deteriorating electricity service in the area. The demonstrators blocked the Baikhora–Muhuripur road and raised slogans demanding immediate restoration of power supply.
According to local sources, the area has been suffering from frequent electricity disruptions for several years due to problems with the transformer. The situation worsened over the last three days, as the entire locality has remained without electricity. Residents alleged that despite repeated complaints to the electricity department, no permanent solution has been provided.
Locals claimed that officials from the power department repeatedly stated that many residents of Mog Para do not regularly pay their electricity bills, which has created difficulties in maintaining the service. However, the protesters argued that many consumers regularly clear their bills but are still forced to endure the suffering. They demanded that the department take necessary action specifically against those who default on payments instead of penalizing the entire locality.
Residents said they were compelled to resort to the road blockade after years of neglect and unresolved issues. Their primary demands include the immediate installation of a new transformer and restoration of normal electricity services in the area.
The power outage has also triggered a severe drinking water crisis, as water supply systems have been affected by the lack of electricity. Women from the locality also joined the protest, demanding both electricity and drinking water facilities.
Locals further alleged that despite the blockade continuing for a long time on Thursday, which coincided with an Eid government holiday, no administrative official visited the protest site.
Residents of Mog Para are now waiting to see what steps the administration will take and how soon the long-standing crisis will be resolved.
