Satellite Township Projects Underway in Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar

Agartala, Oct 10:
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today announced that a ring road is being developed around Agartala city to ease growing traffic congestion and improve urban connectivity.

Speaking at the inauguration of the renovated and beautified MBB College Lake, Dr. Saha said that holistic development remains a key priority for the state government. Alongside major infrastructure initiatives, satellite township projects are already in progress in Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar, aimed at promoting balanced regional growth.

The MBB College Lake rejuvenation project has been implemented under the Agartala Smart City Mission, executed by the Urban Development Department with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Reflecting on his personal connection to the college, Dr. Saha said,

“MBB College is a matter of pride for all of us. I also studied here during my early academic years. Today, a beautiful environment has been created through the lake’s renovation and beautification, making it a place of pride and a hub for the people of the state.”

He added that the Smart City Mission, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has transformed the pace of development in Agartala.

“Before becoming Prime Minister, Narendra Modi served as Gujarat’s Chief Minister for 13 years and used the state as a model for development. Continuing that vision, he launched the Smart City Mission, under which Agartala has seen accelerated progress,” Dr. Saha remarked.

The revamped MBB College Lake is expected to become a new tourist attraction in the capital city. The site features a 2.5-kilometre walking path, children’s play areas, yoga zones, and provisions for water sports, offering a perfect blend of recreation and community engagement.

An entry fee of just ₹10 has been fixed, and the premises will remain open from 8 AM to 8 PM daily.

“This initiative will also help curb anti-social activities and encourage healthy public interaction,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha further informed that the Howrah River Bank Development Project for 2025–26 is nearing completion and will be inaugurated soon. Under the Tripura Urban and Tourism Development Project, funded by ADB, comprehensive work is underway across 12 municipal bodies, covering sewage systems, water supply, road construction, and infrastructure development. The ₹230 crore project is expected to be completed within two years.

Highlighting upcoming initiatives, the Chief Minister said that budget allocations have been made for the satellite township projects in Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar.

He also announced progress on the Unity Mall project at Badharghat, a flagship initiative under the ‘One District, One Product’ scheme envisioned by the Prime Minister.

“A five-star hotel with around 100 rooms will also be constructed at Pushpawant Palace in collaboration with the Tata Group. This will be a game changer for our tourism and economy,” he said.

Reiterating his government’s commitment, Dr. Saha emphasized,

“Our government’s primary goal is the overall development of Tripura — beyond politics. We are equally focused on improving the health sector and ensuring every citizen benefits from modern infrastructure and smart facilities.”
