A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rainfall swept across Tripura on Tuesday, causing widespread destruction across all eight districts of the state. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre in Agartala, a total of 1,534 houses were damaged — including 76 completely destroyed, 195 severely affected, and 1,263 partially damaged.
The storm also resulted in damage to 129 electric poles and left two people injured. Officials reported that falling trees, strong winds, and intense rain disrupted normal life and caused significant infrastructure damage.
Among the worst-hit areas was Unakoti district, where 518 houses were damaged. This includes 26 houses that were completely destroyed, 33 that suffered severe damage, and 459 that were partially affected.
Other districts also reported notable losses. North Tripura recorded damage to 136 houses, while 272 houses were affected in Dhalai district. In Sepahijala, 250 houses were damaged, followed by 236 in South Tripura. Khowai reported damage to 85 houses, and West Tripura recorded 37 affected homes. Gomati district did not report structural damage to houses; however, two individuals were injured after a tree fell on them during the storm.
The heavy winds uprooted numerous trees, leading to road blockages in several areas. While authorities have managed to clear some of the affected routes, restoration work is still ongoing in other parts of the state.
Despite the heavy rainfall, officials confirmed that all rivers are currently flowing below danger levels. The highest rainfall was recorded in the Kamalpur subdivision of Dhalai district, measuring 159 mm.
Authorities continue to assess the damage and carry out relief and restoration operations.
