The Sikkim Legislative Assembly will hold a busy and important sitting today as the House meets for the third session of the Eleventh Assembly. According to the official list of business, the day will begin at 10:50 a.m., when members will take their seats. This will be followed at 11:00 a.m. by an obituary reference in memory of former MLA Late Athup Lepcha, who passed away earlier.

After the obituary, the House will move straight into a long agenda of legislative work. Chief Minister P.S. Tamang, who also handles the Finance Department, will introduce the Sikkim Goods and Services (Amendment) Bill, 2025. He will also bring the Sikkim Land Revenue Bill, 2025, for consideration and passing.

Several other ministers are also scheduled to introduce major Bills. Public Health Engineering Minister Sonam Lama will place the Sikkim Sewerage and Sewage Disposal Bill, 2025, and the Sikkim Water Supply and Water Charges Bill, 2025. The Law Minister Raju Basnet will introduce the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Sikkim Bill, 2025. The Chief Minister, in his Transport portfolio, will bring the Sikkim Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Urban Development Minister Bhoj Raj Rai will introduce amendments to the Sikkim Town and Country Planning Act. The Education Minister will present the Sikkim Private Universities Bill, 2025. All these Bills are expected to be taken up for consideration and passage during the session.

The day’s agenda also includes one major government resolution. Social Welfare Minister Samdup Lepcha will present a resolution seeking ratification of the final report of the Sikkim State High-Level Committee on the inclusion of twelve left-out indigenous communities in the ST list. The House will consider and adopt this resolution.

The Chief Minister will then present several audit reports, including those from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on state finances, bank functioning, and various departments. The Speaker, Mingma Norbu Sherpa, will also lay annual reports of multiple commissions and departments before the House.
